Newspaper poetry

October 17th, 2005

Arouna KonéSometimes journalists can get a bit carried away in there descriptions. At a certain point it doesn’t look like a news article anymore but more like poetry. On my way to work this morning I came across a piece of genuine newspaper poetry. Last Saturday PSV beat AZ with 3 to 0. A great result, a great game and an even better atmosphere (of course I was there). An article of the star player of the evening, Arouna Koné, went something like this:

"As star number three he gave the AZ defenders a traumatic evening. Koné was a caress to the eye, a delightful artist who on his own can draw the masses to the stadium. The blonde Ivorian, with his rocking hips, swinging legs and explosive breakaways, was dancing joyfully across the green carpet of the Philips Stadium. He wouldn’t have looked out of place in the final of the popular TV-show ‘Dancing with the stars’. Even in the most precarious situations - three or four AZ players breathing down his neck - Koné remained rhythmically upright. He, almost carelessly, shook the best of moves and passes out of his feet."

Of course my English version is nothing like the original but I hope you get the drift.
