What’a mistake’a to make’a

November 14th, 2005

MichaelangelaAs you presumably all know, in December I’ll have had my turtles for two years. Now you would suspect that after two years I would know what kind of turtle they are. At the pet shop I was so excited about finally getting the turtles I completely forgot to ask. After doing an extensive lookup on the internet I decided they must be Trachemys scripta troostii, more commonly known as a Cumberland Slider. After submitting a photo of my turtle to a forum contest dedicated to water turtles, I was quickly informed that I was NOT the owner of two Cumberland Sliders but of two Pseudemys nelsoni, also known as the Florida Red-bellied Cooter (which is actually a kind of stupid name since mine does not have a red bellie).

Ooh well… you live, you learn. I did feel kind of stupid, but I’m glad I now realy know what kind they are. Go to my photo album to view the images I shot in order to enter the photo of the month contest.
